Book Travelers West

Book Travelers West is a commissioned sales group operating since 1951.  We currently consist of four sales representatives.  Each member of the group is responsible for sales in a specific geographic region in the West and is compensated principally by the commissions earned in their designated territory.

Kurtis Lowe is the Head of Group and main contact person for group business.  He is based in Seattle and covers the Pacific Northwest (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Alaska).  Some of his accounts are Third Place Books, Elliott Bay Book Company, University Bookstore, Powell’s Books and Village Books.  He also works with wholesalers Partners West, Benjamin News, Homestead Books and Todd Communications.  Kurtis worked for Seattle’s Elliott Bay Book Co. for seven years with three years in the author event program.  Kurtis has been part of Book Travelers West since 2000.

John Majeska lives in Southern California.  He covers Southern California and Las Vegas, Nevada, but recently has turned over Arizona and New Mexico to Phoebe Gaston.  Some of his key accounts are Book Soup, Vroman’s, LA County Art Museum, and Event Network.  John began his career at Pickwick Books, managing several stores, and sold for Scribners and Baker & Taylor.  He joined BTW in 1986.

Phoebe Gaston has been with the group since 2007 when she graduated from the Denver Publishing Institute after getting her BA in English with a minor in Journalism. She has represented publishers in both the Mountains and Plains and northern California regions, as well as Hawaii. Phoebe recently made the move back to Denver. Her current territory is Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, New Mexico, Arizona, eastern Nevada, and Hawaii. Some of her key accounts include Tattered Cover, Boulder Bookstore, Maria’s Bookshop, Deseret Book Company, The King’s English, Changing Hands, and Bookworks of Albuquerque.

Kevin Peters recently joined BTW to serve northern California including the San Francisco Bay and coastal areas from Big Sur north as well as Reno, NV.  Some of his key accounts include Kepler’s, Copperfields, Book Passage, City Lights, Books Inc., Bookshop Santa Cruz and the art museums of San Francisco.  For eleven years Kevin Peters represented Macmillan/Holtzbrinck into independent bookstores in Northern California and the Sierra Nevada and before that worked with Bayside Entertainment (wholesale distributor and sister company to Tower Records and Books/MTS Inc.) and at three Books Inc. bookstore locations in the Sacramento area.  Since 2012, Kevin has provided independent regional publisher publicity support, media escorting/author transportation, planning assistance and consultation for author tours in Northern California through his own company Peters Literary Media.
